This winter, our students will embrace the season with age-appropriate outdoor activities designed to connect them to the land and keep them moving. Grades 6-8 will be introduced to skiing, Grades 4-5 will explore snowshoeing, and Grades 1-3 will enjoy tobogganing (toboggans provided by the school). Additionally, students across all grades will engage in creative snow-based projects, such as building forts, mazes, and other imaginative structures, fostering teamwork and ingenuity.
These activities also reflect the value many Indigenous cultures place on living in harmony with the environment. Traditional teachings emphasize respect and gratitude for the land, offering students an opportunity to deepen their connection to nature while developing new skills.
By embracing outdoor recreation in the winter months, we encourage students to stay active, adventurous, and engaged, building not only physical fitness but also a lasting appreciation for the beauty and potential of the outdoors.
Helmet Policy
As per PWPSD policy, helmets are required for any sliding activities, including tobogganing or sledding. While the school has a limited number of helmets available to share, families are encouraged to send their own helmets if possible. Any type of helmet is acceptable, including hockey, baseball, bicycle, or snowboarding helmets. Helmets can be:
Stored at school (clearly labeled).
Kept in your child’s locker.
Taken home after school.
Tobogganing is optional for Grades 5-8. If your child has a helmet and would like to participate, they must also come prepared with gloves, a second layer of pants (preferably snow pants), and a winter jacket. For students without a helmet or who choose not to toboggan, we will offer other outdoor enrichment activities, such as snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and more.
Our goal is to ensure all students are safe, comfortable, and engaged in meaningful outdoor experiences. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
